It was designed by the New York office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill with a tower set on a podium base and a plaza featuring a triptych and landscape by Isamu Noguchi. The restaurant reception area serves as a transition to the darker interior environment. Rainforest Green marble, aluminum, and red oak paneling comprise the limited yet rich material palette. The architects were responsible for all of the furnishings and finishes as well as the custom banquettes. Using an anodized aluminum chain fabric, the architects designed a rectilinear central ceiling element that hovers above the dining room. While views are maintained to the adjacent Burnett Park, the kitchen is screened by a series of wood and aluminum fins, allowing glimpses of the kitchen energy to flow out into the dining. <img FAIA (Principal Architect), Gable Bostic, AIA Project Status Permit Review &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The design seeks to take a small urban infill site and provide a pleasant and enjoyable environment for workforce housing. The layout breaks apart the double stacked hallway of typical apartment units and trades the front yard area for an internal courtyard and open walkways. The walkways are 3rd places for human interaction and culminate in an outdoor living connector at the south end of the building - giving each floor its own outdoor community space that overlooks the courtyard and green space to the south. The building is clad in simple fiber cement panels. two-story masonry building constructed at 665 S Main Street in 1895, and enlarged in 1907. health and economic disparities that disadvantage minorities in the United States, compromising health, living environments, access to nutrition, and educational resources. The crisis also reveals supply chain deficiencies in which goods and services were initially scarce and difficult to transport, leaving such communities especially vulnerable. When nonessential businesses closed, farmers who had already harvested their crops could not find new buyers before their perishable product rotted. Additionally, the American Farm Bureau Federation estimates that only about eight percent of farms in the United States supply food locally. Gentrification continues to marginalize these groups. This legacy is apparent in Govalle’s inflated walk score, with liquor stores and similar businesses considered in that valuation. Inspired by the Mexican tianguis and state-sponsored fixed markets, this approach legitimizes informal economies via a hybrid function as market and demonstrative farm where visitors of all ages develop an understanding of agriculture, food production, and land stewardship. The project is organized around a flexible community hall with rings of complimentary programs, infrastructure, and circulation circumscribing it. Soon after purchasing the property, FEMA raised the 100-year floodplain four feet, making the entirety of the property unbuildable with traditional slab or pier-and-beam construction techniques. Using this as a design opportunity, the house was raised high enough to allow for parking and future activities to take place under the house. Historic Texas dogtrot houses were used as inspiration.
